What has impressed you lately?

I recently took part in the London 10K run through some of the most visible and famous sites of London. My aim was to just complete the race, and if possible under an hour.

After the 5km point I was feeling strong, however it was around the 7 or 8km point when I really started to hit the wall. Just as my legs began to give way I noticed a runner in front of me who was linked arm to arm with another runner with some writing on their shirt. My curiosity got the better of me so I pushed hard to read their shirt. The message is still visual to me 'Blind runner please take care'.

Any thoughts of giving up instantly disappeared. Although I finished the race just over an hour, I could not stop thinking how challenging it must have been for that runner. I was inspired.

Whether it is within a social setting or work environment, what has impressed you lately?

Its a great point Trent...and is that you in the picture? very impressive.

The easier inspirations do tend to come from adversity and sport is a great demonstrator for that...be it the blind runner...or the amputee solider learning to compete in wheelchair basketball.

I think the desire to never give up,despite the odds being against you is always inspirational. Recently I heard of the individual who had applied for over 100 jobs and had been declined for each...yet still continued to be up beat and determined to gain employment again.

but inspiration takes many forms...and is all around us.

Yes it actually is me and not a photo-shop job!!!

We are surrounded by inspirational people whether it might be a fellow work colleague, a manager, family member, or someone who has inspired many people in their community.

However, what I have noticed in the workplace is how we 'as workers' are reluctant to come forward and express how we have been inspired or impressed with the work achievements of our fellow colleagues. Is this because we may feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or do we not want to be looked upon as less competent?

How often have you come forward and expressed to your colleague or manager how they have either impressed or inspired you? Do you a story you can share?

Trent,

I think its all about the culture the organisation has, as too how comfortable people feel about colleagues.

I've seen recommend a colleague schemes as well as employee of the month...but they have to be transparent and of value.

They also come with a degree of cynicism so have to be communicated well.
