Diversity and Change

I have been quite involved in some interesting diversity and change management interventions and learnt some useful stories that provoked some good discussions and spring boards onto the groups own challenges. I would be happy to share these with members of the forum.

Sounds great Iain. I'd be interested in any change management examples...particularly where it's not gone well with businesses...and lessons were learnt.

Hi there! I am also working in a project where Change Management plays an important role, and one step that helped us make sure we weren't forgetting anything was checking the 8-step Change model by Kotter. It describes in a fairly simple manner what are the key points not to forget if you want to implement change successfully.

Another key point is to have very strong communication between team members as a first step, and also towards the people who will be impacted by the change. This can prove difficult but is crucial to be well managed.

I don't know yet if the change will be successful or not, I think we will have to wait a few months (years?) to know that, but at least I know I had fun in making it happen, and it's very exciting to be part of this!

Hi Valentina,

Yes Kotter is a great framework to use in managing change and provides a good process to follow.

In my experience though its not just about following a process...especially if your change involves people. This is where the communication you mention is critical.

Its also important to understand the emotions that people feel and go through.

Have you come across the Kubler Ross Change Curve? It's very useful in understanding the emotions people go through when facing change.

A copy of the model is on our HR Resources Free Download section or just click on this link..

Kubler Ross model...

It's worth considering as a project manager and leader how your people are dealing with the change ...and how you are helping them at each of the stages.
